An engineering firm involved in the Ardrossan Campus development gave back to the local community at a recent event.

AtkinsRéalis are part of the design team for the new development which will see a modern, state-of-the-art education and community campus built on the site of the former Shell Oil refinery.

Members of the AtkinsRéalis team were at Ardrossan Academy and Stanley Primary to raise awareness and inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, which will have a huge role in helping the council and other local authorities meet their net zero targets.

Primary pupils from local schools were at the ‘Net Zero Superheroes event’ which involved a series of interactive workshops on topics like solar energy and nuclear fuel plus.

Quote:Councillor Shaun Macauley, Cabinet Member for Education and Young People said, “It was great to see so many of our young people take part and learn more about the environment and STEM subjects. Community benefits are an essential part of the contracts we award as it’s vital that businesses give back to the local community and leave a legacy which is more than just the physical development they are working on. A big thanks to everyone involved in the events at Ardrossan Academy and Stanley Primary.”
